End of Watch: January 23, 1986
Deputy Randall Graves was working a sensitive and dangerous undercover assignment on the night of January 21, 1986. He and a passenger were traveling east on Speedway Boulevard on his motorcycle. As they approached the intersection of Speedway Boulevard and Alvernon, a car turned into his path. Graves’ motorcycle struck the car in the rear passenger door, and he was thrown to the pavement. Graves, his passenger, and a passenger in the car were taken to the Tucson Medical Center and hospitalized. Deputy Graves, age 35, a twelve-year veteran officer, died of his injuries two days after the accident.
The driver of the car was cited for failure to yield the right of way.
He was survived by his mother Myrtle Graves, father Marion L. Graves (deceased), wife Sandy, his two children; Shannon and Holly, and his sisters; Marilyn M. Williams and Mandilyn F. Le-neve.
